Mindfulness and vegan cooking classes among over 290 courses offered at Leinster House

Mindfulness courses and vegan cooking classes were among more than 290 courses offered in Leinster House over the last 15 months.

Politicians and their staff could also access training for managing workplace violence and aggression.

The courses cost €251,859 last year and provided a wide array of services for TDs, Senators, their staff and civil servants.

Irish sign language as well as Irish and French language classes are routinely offered.

Pre-retirement planning was also organised for seven TDs and Senators in February, just three days after the election ended their careers.

Eight-week mindfulness courses were offered in January and September last year and run by a company called Mindcul.

For the first course, 20 TDs and Senators expressed an interest and there were 62 attendances over the two months. For the second course, interest fell.

A nutrition and health seminar also proved popular with 17 people taking part while 16 attended a talk on transparency and access to information.

0ther courses included Presenting Difficult Messages and Telephone Techniques.

An Oireachtas spokeswoman said: “The aim is to ensure everyone is provided with the support to allow them to carry out their tasks as effectively as possible.”
