Mind-reading device lets you charge your smartphone simply by focusing on it

The idea of charging your smartphone simply by staring at it may sound like a plot from the latest episode of Black Mirror, but it could soon be a reality, thanks to a new mind-reading device.

The device, called MyndHub syncs up to an EEG Headset, and allows you to control any USB gadget using mental focus.

MyndPlay, the firm behind the device, explained: “The MyndHub connects to the MyndBand EEG Headset and enables a user to connect any USB gadget, electrical, mechanical or connected home device and make it react in real-time to their mental focus and calm.

"With adjustable thresholds and filters the user can make the MyndHub turn things on and off, power devices, race cars, fly drones, control lighting or even play music and sounds based on their levels of focus, calm and mood.”

Users simply put on the EEG headset and plug it in the MyndHub, which will automatically start streaming your live focus data.

You then connect your USB device to the hub, before setting your chosen thresholds.

For example, if you want to work on your concentration, you could set your smartphone to start charging when you reach a certain focus level.

Alternatively, if you’re trying to switch-off, you could set your smartphone to start charging when you brain is calm.

MyndPlay added: “It can help you meditate by using your connected home or Alexa as your feedback loop so you can track your level of meditation in real-time; or users can create and have fun with their brains by making things move, fly, spin and react to the power of the brain as a real world super power – true telekinesis technology.”

The device is set to launch on Kickstarter next month, although the price remains unclear.
