MILWAUKEE _ Shanika S. Minor, who is wanted in the killing of a pregnant Milwaukee woman, was captured early Friday after a tip led authorities to an airport motel in North Carolina, the FBI announced Friday.
Minor, 24, was added to the FBI's "10 Most Wanted Fugitives" list earlier this week. She is accused of fatally shooting her mother's nine months' pregnant neighbor, Tamecca Perry, hours after Minor confronted the woman with a complaint about loud music.
The tip came to the FBI in the predawn hours Friday and agents contacted Cumberland County Sheriff's deputies, who found Minor at motel near an airport in Fayetteville, N.C., according to a news release.
Minor was arrested "without incident" and taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center where she remained Friday afternoon, officials said.
Minor, who has no prior criminal record, is the 10th woman to appear on the Most Wanted list.
Authorities say Minor, armed with a gun, first challenged Perry to a fight the night of March 5 and fired several shots into the air and before leaving the scene at her mother's request.
Hours later, about 3 a.m. on March 6, Minor returned and her mother again tried to intervene _ stepping between Minor and the pregnant neighbor _ but was unable to de-escalate the situation before Minor reached over her mother's shoulder and fired a round at Perry's chest, according to police.
Minor was charged days later with two counts of first-degree homicide in the fatal shooting of Perry and Perry's unborn child.
Weeks after Perry was slain, her brother, Deshun Freeman, was shot and killed during an argument after a minor car crash. Prosecutors have charged a 28-year-old concealed-carry permit holder with homicide in his death.
In a prepared statement, Milwaukee FBI Special Agent In Charge Robert Shields and Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn thanked the public for their help in locating Minor and praised the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office for its quick response.
