The Milwaukee Bucks made history in the NBA Bubble on Wednesday afternoon as they refused as a team to take the court for their potential series-ending Game 5 against the Orlando Magic. A few minutes later, Bucks guard George Hill confirmed to ESPN’s Marc Spears that the Bucks had indeed chosen to boycott their game today in light of the shooting of Jacob Blake by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the state in which the Bucks play. The Bucks also don’t have to look outside the locker room for an example of police brutality and racial profiling of Black people.
Bucks guard Sterling Brown filed a lawsuit against the City of Milwaukee after he was a victim of police brutality and racial profiling, so this is also a personal issue for the Bucks team. About 20 minutes after the scheduled tip-off, everyone was packing things up.
There are two more games scheduled for today, including the nightcap featuring the Los Angeles Lakers. It remains to be seen what the other four teams will do after the Bucks decided to boycott their game today.
