Millwall up police presence at The Den after alleged racist chanting marred FA Cup win over Everton

Millwall are to bring in extra police spotters at the Den in a bid to avoid any repeat of the alleged racist chanting which overshadowed their FA Cup win over Everton.

The club have also closed part of a stand in the area of the ground where the alleged racist language came from last month.

The back two rows of three blocks in the Dockers Stand have been closed until at least the end of the season to allow space for extra stewarding, while more police will be deployed to make sure the area is properly patrolled.

Millwall are working to identify the individuals responsible and have vowed to impose lifetime bans against any supporters who are successfully prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Millwall chief executive Steve Kavanagh attended a stewards’ briefing before their home 0-0 draw with Rotherham on Saturday, making it clear that the club will not accept racist behaviour and that any instances must be reported.

Kavanagh has also spoken to supporters in the area of the stand where the chanting came from, urging them to also report any racist behaviour.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after an Everton fan’s face was slashed during violent scenes outside the ground.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, attempted grievous bodily harm and violent disorder. He was bailed until February 28.
