Millwall set to name Gary Rowett as new manager after Neil Harris exit

Millwall are close to naming Gary Rowett as their new boss to replace Neil Harris.

Rowett has been out of work since January after being dismissed by Stoke.

But he is set to clinch a return to the Championship to succeed long-serving Harris, who was axed after four-and-a-half-years in charge.

Rowett, 45, was interviewed on Friday for the second time by the London club and has emerged as the stand-out contender.

He previously got Birmingham pushing for the play-offs on a tight budget similar to the Lions' finances.

Millwall’s US chairman John Berylson flew to England earlier this month to assist with the decision and has given his blessing to the appointment of Rowett.

Wycombe's Gareth Ainsworth was also considered but Rowett impressed during two rounds of talks.

He is likely to be in the stands on Tuesday to watch his first game against Cardiff at The Den.

Millwall go into the game after just one win in 10 games in all competitions after throwing away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at Brentford on Saturday when they conceded three times in the final 10 minutes.
