Millwall planning January swoop for Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates - report

Nottingham Forest's Championship rivals Millwall are planning a January move for Ryan Yates, it has been claimed.

The Sun has reported that Gary Rowett's side are big admirers of the academy graduate who played a key role in Forest's 1-0 win at Blackburn at the weekend.

But they could face a huge fight in a bid to prise him away from the City Ground with new boss Chris Hughton a fan of the tough-tackling midfielder.

He was full of praise for Yates' contribution despite the fact some Reds fans remain unconvinced about his ability.

"I do like him. I've seen Ryan in the last couple of seasons from the times when I've watched games," Hughton said.

"He's a particular type of player, as is anyone that will play in that midfield role. He has qualities.

"It's about getting the right balance in there. He's a committed player, a whole-hearted player and I thought he had a really good performance.

"There will always be the types of players where those that know them appreciate the jobs they do," he said.

"That doesn't mean others don't appreciate them, but there's always people regarded as real good team players.

"It's about balance. Every team will have individuals who are a strong part of the team and the balance you want."

Hughton's comments indicate that Yates will feature heavily in his long-term vision for the club with the midfielder having also figured under his predecessor Sabri Lamouchi.
