Millwall manager's comments show why Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock is the envy of the Championship

Millwall boss Neil Harris wants to emulate Neil Warnock as a manager, after lauding the Cardiff City boss for his hunger and honesty.

The Bluebirds host the newly-promoted Lions at Cardiff City Stadium this weekend, with young manager Harris keen to match Warnock's impressive career.

The 40-year-old, who had a brief spell as a Cardiff player on loan in 2004, has been in charge of Millwall since the summer of 2015. In that time he has achieved promotion to the Championship.

But he has a long way to go before he can match Warnock's record-equalling seven promotion.

“If you look at his pathway he has pretty much managed at every level and had success at every level,” said Harris ahead of the game."

“It is testament to his desire and hunger.

“In terms of people to follow he is a great one. His record in the dugout is there to be batted against anybody and he is a good football personality. He gets players to love to play for him and is not shy to speak his mind and say some home truths in public.

“If I have his longevity I’ll have a really good career."

Harris also insisted he believed Cardiff would be play-off contenders before the season started, despite some bookmakers writing off the Bluebirds' promotion hopes.

Millwall, who have enjoyed a decent start to life in the second tier, will be looking to topple Warnock's in-form side, on Saturday.

The Lions sit in 15th place after four wins, four draws and five defeats while the Bluebirds are flying high in second.

Harris added: “I think the thought process in the summer would have been that Cardiff were an outside bet for a play-off place. They are a good, solid Championship side who have got some flair about them as well as some ability going forward."
