Millwall issue injury update as Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell undergoes surgery

Leeds United loanee and Millwall defender Charlie Cresswell underwent successful eye surgery on Monday morning.

Cresswell suffered a fractured eye socket after he was caught in the face by West Brom striker Daryl Dike in a goalless draw at the Hawthorns on April 1.

The defender is expected to be unavailable for the next five to six weeks, which looks set to see him miss the rest of the season for the Lions.

Millwall are currently fifth in the Championship and boast a three-point cushion over seventh-place Coventry City in the race for the play-offs.

Cresswell has played 30 games across all competitions for Millwall this season - scoring five goals and contributing one assist.

The 20-year-old, who has been capped nine times by England under-21 side, will likely be fit to feature for the Three Lions at the European Under-21 Championship in June.

England face a group containing Czech Republic, Germany and Israel at the finals, which are being played in Romania and Georgia.
