Millwall have double injury doubt for Nottingham Forest clash as Derby County old boy faces battle

Millwall have a couple of injury doubts going into their Championship clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Forest will welcome the Lions to the City Ground on Saturday (September 25), with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

Newly-appointed head coach Steve Cooper will be in charge of Forest for the first time after being appointed on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Millwall were knocked out of the Carabao Cup to Premier League side Leicester City on Wednesday evening following a 2-0 defeat at The Den.

With their focus now on the visit to the City Ground, Lions boss Gary Rowett delivered injury news after the Leicester game.

Former Derby County man Mason Bennett, who has missed the opening five league games this campaign due to a back injury, was unavailable on Wednesday.

Winger Jed Wallace also missed out through illness and remains doubtful for the weekend.

Rowett however, had the return of Shaun Hutchinson, while Danny McNamara wasn't risked and Maikel Kieftenbeld was rested.

While Bennett and Wallace could be unavailable on Saturday, Rowett is hopeful that Benik Afobe and Sheyi Ojo will be fit to return to action.

The Millwall boss told News At Den: "Mase has got a lower back issue so he wasn’t available.

"I’ve said it before, I’ve not known anything like the amount of injuries and the amount of changes we’ve had to make from game to game.

"Hutchy now will be available for the full 90. Danny Mac wanted to be involved tonight, we just felt that maybe cautiously it was the right decision (to leave him out). He should be available Saturday, whether that’s to start or not, I don’t know.

"I think Maikel will be OK. Mason will be a doubt, Jed will be a doubt. Sheyi might be back, we’ll assess his fitness.

"I think over the next couple of games we’re going to look in a better position squad-wise. Up until then we just have to work incredibly hard to try and get results."

The South East London outfit are currently 17th in the Championship after a solitary win, five draws and two defeats.
