Millwall boss Gary Rowett speaks out over decision ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Millwall boss Gary Rowett says it is frustrating no fans will be allowed to watch their clash against Nottingham Forest on Saturday after the government decided to impose tier three restrictions in London.

The Reds travel to the capital as they look to secure a second successive Championship victory following their fine win over struggling Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.

Millwall had anticipated that up to 2,000 fans would be allowed to watch the clash but those were plans were ruined when the government announced on Thursday that London was being placed into tier three Covid restrictions.

That is a result of a spike of cases in the capital and Rowett says he feels not just for the supporters but also businesses in the area.

“It’s frustrating for everyone. But of course there are decisions that have to be made and I suppose we just have to trust those decisions,” Rowett said.

“It’s frustrating for everyone but I’m not going to make out it’s horrendous for us when there are people with businesses in the city and all around the country that are really heavily hit and struggling.

“It’s a big blow for us but I think it’s one that in football we just have to accept.

“Did I think there would be no fans back this season? If you had told me that last season for those last nine games I would have said, ‘what’s the point?’

“I suppose we have to soldier on, keep going as best we can.

“But of course it’s disappointing.”
