Millwall 2 Motherwell 0: Steelmen lose out in final warm-up clash

Motherwell suffered a defeat to Millwall in their final pre-season friendly - with five trialists among the Steelmen's squad.

Graham Alexander's men lost out to goals from Ben Thomspon and Matt Smith at the Oriam in Edinburgh, as the side gear up for Wednesday night's Premier Sports opener away to Queen's Park.

New signings Kevin van Veen, Kaiyne Woolery and Justin Amaluzor all featured, with five trialists named in the squad.

In recent weeks, the Steelmen have run the rule over the likes of ex-Rangers man Jamie Ness and Irish defender Darragh O'Connor, who the Irish Examiner have reported will sign for the Fir Park club in the coming days.

Millwall opened the scoring after just six minutes when midfielder Ben Thomspon turned home a cross into the box.

And the Lions completed the win midway through the second half when Smith's header just inside the box found the back of the net.

Motherwell also lost their other pre-season friendly, losing 1-0 to Dumbarton on June 26.
