Millions of Instagram influencers, celebrities and brand accounts have details exposed

Instagram influencers and internet celebrities have reportedly had private details exposed in a massive online hack.

A database which included details of 49 millions accounts was freely available to internet users, TechCrunch reported.

The hacked details included email addresses, phone numbers as well as other sensitive profile information.

The database was allegedly left exposed for hours.

But an Instagram spokesman said: "We're looking into this issue to understand if the data described - including email and phone numbers - was from Instagram or from other sources.

"We're also inquiring with Chtrbox to understand where this data came from and how it became publicly available."

The social media giant is investigating the latest leak.

Instagram, owned by Facebook, admitted a security bug in its developer API two years ago.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange jailed for 50 weeks for skipping bail

It allowed hackers to obtain the email addresses and phone numbers of six million users.

The hackers later sold the data for bitcoin.

More than one billion people use the social media.
