Millions of benefit claimants to receive their payments two days early

  • Millions of UK benefit claimants will receive their payments two days early on 28 August due to the summer bank holiday on 31 August.
  • The schedule change applies to Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (Pip), Carer’s Allowance, Attendance Allowance, and state pension recipients with National Insurance numbers ending in 00 to 19.
  • Disability Minister Sir Stephen Timms confirmed the early payments to ensure families and older people receive their money without disruption over the holiday period.
  • Universal Credit is currently the UK's most claimed benefit, supporting about 8.4 million claimants with an average monthly payment of £1,030 across all recipients.
  • The Department for Work and Pensions recently completed the migration of most legacy benefits to Universal Credit, bringing older schemes like tax credits and housing benefit to an end.
