Millionaire who was one of the first men in the UK to become a dad through a surrogate has got engaged to his daughter's ex-boyfriend... and they're expecting a baby

One of the first gay men in Britain to become a father through a surrogate has got engaged to his daughter's ex-boyfriend - while on holiday with the pair... and they're expecting a baby.

Millionaire businessman Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, originally from Manchester, is engaged to his assistant Scott Hutchison, who previously dated his 20-year-old daughter Saffron.

The happy couple are expecting a baby together via surrogate.

Barrie, 50, and Scott are on holiday with Saffron in Croatia.

Barrie shared their happy news on his Instagram with a video of the romantic setting on a yacht, decorated with candles and rose petals and a bottle of champagne was laid out.

"What happened here tonight?" teased Barrie in the video.

"I wonder what it could be? There's Champagne, there's roses, uh, uh, uh, oh... what do you think happened here?

'And is that something over there?'"

Barrie then revealed a huge silver and diamond engagement ring.

The doting dad then shared a collection of photos of the trio together on the yacht, describing Scott and Saffron as "my everything."

As congratulations poured in from well-wishers Barrie was asked: "Are you and Scott engaged?"

And he replied: "Yes last night x"

Last month he shared their baby scan and said he couldn't wait to meet their daughter.

"The most wonderful thing in the world," he wrote.

"I’m so excited to meet you baby girl, not long now #surrogacy #ivf #gaydads #love @scottroberthutchison just think, couple more months and you will be a dad for the first time x #staystrong #karma."

A smitten Scott has declared his love for Barrie and credited him with changing his life for the better.

"I’ll love this man til the day I die!" he wrote on his Instagram alongside a photo of the happy couple.

"He’s changed me in so many ways and turned me into someone no-one will ever understand! #happy #funtimes #drinks #family #babycoming #love."

It was revealed last year that Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow, who made headlines in the late 1990s when they became the first gay men in the UK to become fathers through a surrogate, had split after 32 years.

The couple, who grew up on council estates in  Longsight  and  Wythenshawe  before becoming millionaires with their medical research company Euroderm, made legal history when they won the right to become the first same-sex couple to be jointly named parents on the birth certificate of their test-tube twins Saffron and Aspen.

The couple also have a son Orlando and twin boys Jasper and Dallas.

Tony is aid to have given Barrie and Scott his blessing after their secret nine month romance was revealed, with the three men living happily under the same roof in a £6m mansion in Florida.

In November Scott announced it was "time for the world to know" about his relationship with Barrie.

Barrie also broke his silence, and told The Sun he was "not having a midlife crisis" and despite the age gap between him and Scott, it 'felt right.'

He said: “I’ve fallen in love with Scott and he has done the same. I feel stupid at my age to have these feelings about someone other than Tony and half my age.

"But when you know something is right, it’s right. We have not made definite plans but I would like to marry Scott.

“I’m not having a mid-life crisis - if I was having one I'd buy myself a Porsche 911. This is the real deal."

The former couple, who now have an estimated combined fortune of £40m, owned properties in Cheshire and Manchester city centre before moving to the USA.

Barrie said on Facebook: "I’m not sure what the big deal is myself, things don’t always work out in relationships for one reason or another, but Tony and I are both very happy about the way things have turned out.

"Regardless of the negativity regarding our relationship, we will both be there for each other through this very difficult time."
