Millionaire's 162 days of hell 'chained up like a dog' after being kidnapped

A millionaire was "chained up like a dog" during a 162-day kidnapping ordeal.

Sandra Munsamy, 46, was taken hostage in May last year with her captors demanding £6million from her transport tycoon family.

The mum-of-two was driving through Pinetown, near Durban, South Africa, when a gang forced her off the road, opened fire on her car and then pulled her out of the vehicle.

She was then blindfolded and bundled into another car, and taken to a home in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, where she was kept shackled to a wall for the next six months.

Ms Munsamy was only able to move from the bed to a toilet and a bath because of the chain around her ankle.

Detectives, who blamed an international crime syndicate for her kidnapping, finally managed to trace her down and free her.

Police arrested two "guards" at the house and later apprehended another two men.

The accused have been charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, extortion and other crimes.

Investigating officer Abraham Sonnekus yesterday told a court of how the "guards" held the victim in "the most inhumane, undignified condition by keeping her chained to a wall", Times Live reports.

He added: "This was done for monetary gain. The victim was chained up and there were alterations made to the property to ensure no visibility from outside.

"If the victim was shouting she would not be heard, as the windows were boarded up — the neighbours were not able to hear.

"Chipboard was fitted to the windows from the inside. Holes were drilled into the walls to secure the chain, which was locked around the victim’s ankle."

Munsamy's dad Poonsamy Naicker owns Crossmoor Transport, where she works as the financial director.
