Millionaire fans rage after Prue Leith loses £48k after 'ridiculous' Titanic guess

Prue Leith left Who Wants To Be A Millionaire viewers furious tonight after she lost £48,000 for charity after a guess on a Titanic question that fans branded "ridiculous".

The Bake Off judge, 80, initially impressed after speeding through the answers to £64,000 - but quickly became stuck.

With her safety net set at £16,000, host Jeremy Clarkson had asked her: "Which of these senior crew members on RMS Titanic survived the sinking?"

She was offered the following answers: 1st Officer William Murdoch, Chief designer Thomas Andrews, 2nd Officer Charles Lightoller or Captain Edward.

Admitting that she didn't know, Prue chose to ring her phone-a-friend and nephew Sam to ask him the question.

Confessing that he didn't know, Sam said: "Oh god, I have no idea Prue, I'm afraid. I'm fairly sure it wouldn't be the captain-"

He was then cut off, and Prue decided to use her last lifeline, 50-50.

She decided to guess the latter - leading her to lose £48,000, leaving viewers utterly flabbergasted.

One tweeted: "Expected Prue to get that ... after all everyone knows the Captain didn’t survive, goes down with his ship. Sounded so confident too. Wrong to guess though, cost the charity a lot of money #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire."

While another commented: "@PrueLeith hit an iceberg moment on #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire."

A third wrote: "Captain didn't survive, as depicted in the film.. #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire."

"Shouting at the telly! Not the effing captain! What a diddy #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire," another fumed.

One raged: "I’ve never been so angry at the television than I am right now.... for SO MANY REASONS! #PruFail #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire."
