Millionaire darts star Mervyn King resorts to delivering Amazon parcels for £120 a day

He's known as The King and has a reported £1.7million fortune - but now darts star Mervyn King has embarked on a very different career.

With all darts competition cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the darts ace has resorted to delivering Amazon parcels to earn a living.

King is being paid £120 a day to deliver around 180 parcels in his new role as a delivery driver.

The world ranked number 21 is believed to have started his new job in his home city of Norwich last week.

Among the items he could have to deliver include his own range of darts, which start at £22.99.

The King arrives at the depot, which is based on an industrial estate, in his luxury BMW M6 Coupe at 8.50am each morning.

He then loads up his van and starts his delivery rounds, finishing his shift at around 5pm.

A colleague told The Sun: "It was quite a shock seeing such a well-known sports star packing up his van with parcels.

"I imagine there will have been a few punters doing a double-take when top darts pro Mervyn King rings their doorbell with a delivery - but fair play to him.

"It would have been easy to sit around doing nothing but he obviously likes the idea of getting out of the house and earning some money and doesn’t care who sees him."

King started playing darts when he was just 12 and during his career has reached five major finals, being crowned World Masters champ in 2004.

It's a long way from the rolled up cardboard dartboard given to him by his father when he was still a child.

King decided when he was just 13 that his dream was to become a professional darts player and since then he has played against some of the best in the world.

Now 54, the darts star was left devastated when his father passed away in 2010 and suffered a loss of form.

In an emotional moment at the World Darts Championship the year later, his wife cheered him on with a crown in memory of his father.

King is close pals with fellow darts player, Peter Wright, who he lives close to and the pair are often spotted practising together.

He also uses his position to mentor younger players, especially 2012 Youth World Champion, James Hubbard.

King refused to comment on his new role as an Amazon delivery driver.

He said: "I don’t really see it’s anyone’s business what I do to be fair. I mean, at the end of the day, we are all trying to make a living."
