Million dollar lotto ticket purchased from Canberra newsagent

A Canberra man is one of five people with winning entries in a weekend lotto draw, each receiving a prize of more than one million dollars.

Lotto officials said the man had received confirmation on Wednesday he would receive $1,172,770, from the winning ticket purchased at newsXpress Kippax Fair.

Staff at the newsagent had informed the man they were looking for a winner when he visited the store to cash in some scratchies earlier this week.

He checked the numbers when he returned home and realised he was a winner.

"I got them to print off the winning numbers and I went home and checked my ticket," he reportedly told the staff.

"It's unbelievable. I cannot believe that it's me."

The man said the win had come as a huge shock, and he was still thinking about how he would use the money.

"It will make life a lot easier and it's going to be great to be able to help the kids," the man said.

NewsXpress Kippax Fair manager Douglas Wilson said it was the first division one winning entry the outlet had sold.

Mr Wilson congratulated the man and said everyone at the store was very excited.

"We hope they really enjoy their prize," Mr Wilson said.
