Millie Bobby Brown says she was sexualised before the age of 16 as she celebrates birthday

Millie Bobby Brown turned 16 yesterday and has reflected on growing up in the public eye.

The Stranger Things actress said she had been sexualised and suffered "inappropriate comments" as a child actress.

She won the role of Eleven in the Netlfix series when she was just 12-years-old but her career began in 2013 with a part in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Taking to Instagram, Millie said turning 16 felt like a "long time coming" as she shared a video of herself growing up mixed with negative headlines about herself.

The clip, which was soundtracked by Changes by Justin Bieber, saw her signing autograph and posing for photos at premieres, as well as old footage of her as a baby.

Millie captioned the video: "I feel like change needs to happen for not only this generation but the next. Our world needs kindness and support in order for us children to grow and succeed.

"The last few years haven't been easy, I'll admit that.

"There are moments I get frustrated from the inaccuracy, inappropriate comments, sexualisation, and unnecessary insults that ultimately have resulted in pain and insecurity for me.

"But not ever will I be defeated. I'll continue doing what I love and spreading the message in order to make change.

"Let's focus on what needs changing and I hope this video informs you on the things that go on behind the scenes of the headlines and flashing lights.

"Don't worry I'll always find a way to smile ;) leggo 16."

Millie recently said that filming for Stranger Things season four will be begin early this year.

During a Q&A with her 31.5 million followers, Millie was asked when she and the rest of the cast would be back on set for filming.

"Soon!" she announced, "Early this year for sure and very excited about it."
