Miller walks away from ALM's Wanderers

Kenny Miller (l) will not be returning as assistant for A-League Men's club Western Sydney Wanderers (AAP)

Just weeks out from the start of the A-League Men season, the Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed that Kenny Miller has left his role as the club's assistant coach.

Amid speculation that he will take up a managerial role in his native Scotland, the Wanderers announced that Miller had parted ways with the club after returning home during the off-season break.

"Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the departure of Wanderers men's assistant coach Kenny Miller," the club said in a statement.

"Miller was allowed to return home to Scotland last month for personal reasons and will not be returning for the upcoming season.

"The club would like to thank Kenny for his time in Western Sydney and wishes him all the best in the future."

The Wanderers are yet to confirm who will replace Miller as an assistant to head coach Carl Robinson with their season opener against Sydney FC on November 20 just a few weeks away.

Miller's exit follows that of fellow Scotsman Graham Dorrrans who was granted a mutual termination in July to go home on "compassionate grounds".

Miller followed Robinson to the Wanderers from the Newcastle Jets, but rather than return to assist the Welshman looks set to take a job in the Scottish Championship.

The 41-year-old had a brief spell with Livingston as a player-manager in 2018, but on Sunday expressed an interest in taking the vacancy at Dunfermline, where Dorrans is on the books.

"I'm back, I'm interested in a job, I've missed my job in the last month or so that I've not been on the grass and don't want to be out of it too long," he told the BBC.

"So it's one of them you would look at and there would definitely be an interest - and I won't be the only one."

Dunfermline are currently bottom and are winless in their opening 12 games.
