Millennum Square protest over NHS reforms

Leeds Keep Our NHS public activists will be assembling at noon in Millennium Square on Saturday to protest over the NHS reforms proposed in Andrew Longley's Health and Social Care Bill.

Leeds Keep Our NHS Public claims the Bill would remove the duty to provide comprehensive health care and is widely seen as privatising the NHS.

A spokesperson said:

"This will be a disaster for ordinary people who are proud of the free at the point of delivery, comprehensive health care that the NHS currently provides. This comes on top of plans to close the children's heart unit at the LGI and the cancer ward at St. James' as well as the closure by Leeds city council of the Leeds Crisis Centre."

Lansley was yesterday forced to mount a defence of the reforms.

Keep Our NHS public will be organising further events in Leeds over the coming weeks including a demonstration between St. James' Hospital and the Leeds General Infirmary on Saturday 28 May.
