Millennials 'most fame-hungry generation' as three quarters say they'd go extreme lengths for fame

New research has revealed that millennials are the most fame-hungry generation. Outranking their Gen Z counterparts, nearly three quarters of millennials (74 per cent) admitted they would go to extreme lengths for fame in a new survey of 1,000 respondents.

In celebration of DASH’s new lime sparkling water, a survey was conducted in line with its 'Into The Limelight' campaign to find out just how many Brits are desperate for their moment in the limelight - and how far they'd be willing to go to get it. The results uncovered how fame-hungry the population actually is, as shown by the statistics below:

  • One in five people stated they would go on reality TV in order to get their 15 minutes of fame.

  • One in seven people said they would date a celebrity they weren’t even attracted to in order to cash in on some of their fortunes.

  • It seems as though some Brits wouldn’t stop there, either, with one in seven stating they would even marry into the royal family in order to get all eyes on them.

Out of all, it was millennials (25-34 year olds) who were the most fame-hungry. Almost three-quarters said they'd be willing to go to extreme lengths for a shot under the spotlight.

However, it was Gen-Z’s (18-24 year olds) who were most likely to do something scandalous. Nearly 14 per cent agreed they would follow in the footsteps of Kim Kardashian and make a sex tape.

The data also found what cities in the UK are the most likely to go to extreme lengths for fame. Almost two thirds of Londoners (62 per cent) admitted they would be willing to do the acts and stunts listed while 57 per cent of those in Manchester and 54 per cent in Bristol agreed.

Speaking on behalf of the survey, Holly Crosby, head of ecommerce at DASH said: "In celebration of our lime sparkling water drink, we’ve launched our ‘DASH into the limelight’ campaign, which celebrates the weird and wonderful ways ordinary people are thrust into stardom.

"We were shocked at the results of the survey, and did not expect the lengths people were actually willing to go to for fame! While we’re celebrating some of the more unsuspecting people who earned their fame through chance, it’s really interesting to see the deliberate and scandalous acts which people will do for celebrity status."
