Milk procurement price hiked by ₹2.5 a litre

On the day when Union Home and Co-operation Minister Amit Shah participated in a programme related to co-operatives, the Bengaluru Milk Union Ltd. (BAMUL) increased the procurement price of milk by ₹2.5 a litre. However, there is no change in selling price of milk for consumers.

BAMUL along with other milk unions had reduced the milk procurement prices by ₹5 a litre during COVID-19 citing lack of marketing avenues. Now it has been increased by ₹2.5 a litre to ₹27. Though farmers are happy with the increase in procurement prices ahead of Ugadi festival, they want the procurement prices to be restored to the earlier level as milk production is not remunerative at low procurement prices in the wake of increase in feed costs.
