Milkmen 'charging elderly more unless they pay online'

Milkmen have accused bosses of discriminating against the elderly by charging customers more unless they pay online.

Britain’s biggest doorstep delivery service Milk & More has put 4p on a pint for people paying by cash or cheque.

One milkman lost 10% of customers in four days since the change, with 30 pensioners telling him they cannot afford 85p for a pint.

The man, who delivers in the Midlands, said: “They want to herd customers online but many of mine don’t have the internet.

What they are doing is unfair to older customers who need the service the most. They are being discriminated against.”

Customers said the 4p increase is unfair given that supermarket prices are already much cheaper.

Milk & More said the price rise, the first in almost five years, is to “recover increased business costs” and was delayed for “as long as possible”.

It added: “We have been able to hold the price for online customers because there is significantly less administration involved."
