A massive sword, several feet long, was found down a residential street by officers patrolling the area.
The potentially deadly discovery was made as police were patrolling the areas of Elmswood Road and Horrowby Road in Tranmere.
The sword, which looks like a large military style sabre and was sheathed.
Police in Wirral said, thankfully, the lethal blade did not fall into the wrong hands.
The sword has now been taken away and will be destroyed.
The discovery was made as part of the on-going Operation Target across Merseyside.
The major policing operation aims to tackle serious and violent crime, including gun and knife crime, serious assaults, armed robberies and murder.
The operation also looks at wider issues such as violence in night time economy areas, county lines and drug use.

The £4.2m funding Merseyside Police received from the Serious Violence Fund for the operation is aimed at increasing the number of high-visibility patrols, extra equipment such as metal detectors, and disrupting criminal activity through stop searches, roadside checks and open land searches.
