Military planes spotted circling the skies in Liverpool

Military planes were spotted circling Liverpool's skies last night as RAF crews trained.

Confusion was caused as witnesses reported hearing "loud noise" last night, at about 10pm, as a training exercise was underway.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport Spotters reported it was a Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon ZK329, from RAF Coningsby which caused a stir and prompted people to look out their window at the noise.

It claimed the aircraft performed a "touch and go," before "heading up to 25,000ft".

Joanne McDougall who heard it tweeted: "We wondered what that noise was, wish we'd looked out the window now."

A spokesman for Liverpool John Lennon Airport said after contacting air traffic control, he was able to confirm it was RAF crews training.

During lockdown a number of planes in the sky have attracted attention - perhaps because it has been so rare to see aircraft with advice against all but essential travel.

In April, a plane was spotted "zigzagging" over Liverpool during a strange flight path from Speke.

The Ravenair plane was also captured on a flight tracking app which showed how it crossed the city multiple times on Tuesday before returning to land at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
