Military planes have been spotted flying over Greater Manchester again

Military planes have been flying over Greater Manchester once again.

Over the last few weeks the RAF have been taking advantage of clear skies and empty runways in the region.

Recently planespotters have been treated to appearances of the Chinook, a C-17 Globemaster and a Red Arrows Hawk.

This morning a C-103J Hercules aircraft has been spotted flying over the Tameside area.

According to the RAF, the plane is travelling in the vicinity of Liverpool and Manchester today as part of a training exercise.

A statement on the RAF Brize Norton Facebook page said: "This morning, our C-130J Hercules aircraft will be operating in the vicinity of Liverpool and Manchester, whilst engaged in essential training.

"These are necessary, routine, flights and not connected with RAF support to the UK's fight against Coronavirus."

According to the RAF website, the Hercules is the RAF's primary transport aircraft and is used in countries or regions where there is a threat to air traffic.
