A Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) expert in improvised explosive devices (IEDs) is among three militants killed in south Kashmir's Kulgam on Friday in an operation of the security forces. Three soldiers were also injured in the operation.

“All the three terrorists killed in Kulgam belonged to JeM. Among the slain was a top commander and an IED expert. The JeM commander was responsible for a large number of attacks, including many IED attempts, against security forces in the recent past,” Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said.

The DGP said the JeM commander had managed to escape from three to four encounters earlier.

The slain militants were not identified by their names as yet by the police.

Three Armymen were also wounded during the initial firing and two among them shifted to 92 Base hospital for treatment.

The searches are going on in the area.

“Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition recovered,” a spokesman said.

The encounter broke out in Kulgam early on Friday when a joint team of the Police, the Army’s 09 RR and the CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
