After years of online speculation and whispers, we can finally put the rumoured beef between Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Lawrence to bed. Well, kind of.
If you weren’t aware that the two gorgeous celebs reportedly had bad blood, let me fill you in. In 2023, Miley released her smash-hit single “Flowers”. The track flipped the lyrics of the Bruno Mars song “When I Was Your Man” — the track Liam dedicated to Miley at their wedding — and while Miley hasn’t straight up said it was about her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, the lyrics and the overall vibe certainly made it seem pretty obvious.
Plus, she released the track on his birthday, which fans don’t think is a coincidence.
The gossip flames only burned higher when Miley released the video clip for the track. In the clip, the 32-year-old is seen strutting around Los Angeles in a gold metallic dress with cutouts. Immediately, fans theorised that it was a reference to a very similar dress worn by Liam’s The Hunger Games co-star Jennifer Lawrence amid other rumours that the pair had a secret affair.
This week, a clip of Miley shutting down the rumours emerged while the Hannah Montana star was signing autographs before an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
In the video, a fan can be heard asking Miley whether the dress was a reference to the Silver Linings Playbook star.
“No, but I love that dress of hers,” Miley responded.
Although she’s straight up saying no, fans in the comments thought her expression and tone of voice told a different story.
“The answer was shady,” commented one TikToker.
“‘I love that dress of hers’. That was totally about her,” wrote another.
Back in June 2024, Jennifer Lawrence herself dismissed the online rumour during an episode of Watch What Happens Live.
“Not true, total rumour,” she told host Andy Cohen.
“I mean we all know that me and Liam like, kissed one time. It was years after they broke up, so I just assumed that was like a coincidence.”
Previously, on a 2015 episode of the show, Jennifer confirmed that they had smooched off-camera before.
“Have you two ever kissed when the cameras weren’t rolling?” Cohen asked.
“Liam’s real hot. What would you have done?” Jennifer replied before admitting, “Yeah, I have.”
So, both women are dismissing that there is any beef there, but knowing the internet, I feel like whispers of this drama might live on for a long time to come.
