Miles Platting murder probe: Forensics examine scene after man found dead at tower block

Forensic officers are carrying out investigation work after a man was found dead at a tower block in Miles Platting.

A murder investigation was launched after the victim, aged in his 50s, was tragically found dead on Nelson Court on Bank Holiday Monday (August 30).

A woman, aged 24, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

This morning (Tuesday), a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said she remained in custody where she is being quizzed by detectives.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, flooded the residential street after the incident yesterday and remain at the scene today.

Pictures taken on Tuesday afternoon show specialist forensic officers examining the scene for evidence.

Neighbours said yesterday that forensics officers were seen going into a flat on the 11th floor.

One neighbour said armed police were also initially called to the area.

He said: "It was mad. We just saw all the flashing lights. The armed police and detectives were here before the ambulances.

"The air ambulance landed as well."

Det Chief Insp Stuart Wilkinson said: "A murder investigation has been launched and we are currently trying to establish the circumstances that very tragically led to this man's death.

"This is being treated as an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public and we currently have one woman in custody for questioning.

"Anyone who may have information relating to this incident is asked to contact police as soon as possible."
