Miles of M62 tailbacks and major delays after police called to scene

Motorists are facing more than five miles of tailbacks and more than half an hour on their journeys after a two-car smash on the M62.

The two cars crashed at J7 A57 Warrington Road, Rainhill Stoops westbound around 11.30am today.

Highways England are warning drivers they face tailbacks with five miles of tailbacks as of 1pm.

Fortunately nobody was injured in the crash.

A spokesman for Highways England said: "Traffic was taken off at exit slip road and back on at entry slip road.

"No injuries have been reported in the accident which involved two cars.

"It is adding 30 minutes to journeys with five miles of congestion, advising people to allow extra time or use alternative routes."

Travel monitors INRIX said two lanes remain closed.

The travel monitor states: "Two lanes closed, long delays and queueing traffic for three miles due to police incident on M62 Westbound at J7 A57 Warrington Road (Rainhill Stoops).

"Congestion to J8 (Warrington West / Burtonwood).

"Travel time is around 20 minutes.

"Lanes two and three (of three) remain closed. A main carriageway closure was in place between 11.30am and 12.40pm."
