Miles Harrison not commentating on Lions tour after cancer diagnosis

The British and Irish Lions is, without question, one of the most iconic teams in world sport.

Over the years, the team has created countless memories for fans to treasure for years to come.

Each tour is a little bit different, but the Lions have, more often than not, delivered in terms of sporting drama.

This tour will perhaps be more different than others given the strict restrictions around coronavirus that are in place across South Africa.

However, for the fans back home, there will also be another big difference.

For many fans, commentator Miles Harrison has been the voice of the Lions.

Since Sky Sports first earned the rights to broadcast live coverage of the world's most famous rugby team in 1997, Harrison has been there to cover it all for the fans back home.

However, he will not be in the commentary box this time around.

Shortly before the squad flew out to the Rainbow nation, Sky Sports explained that Harrison would be sitting out the tour after undergoing surgery for colon cancer.

In a tweet, the broadcaster said: "Our much-loved colleague Miles Harrison is recovering from surgery this week for colon cancer. He has asked us to explain his absence from the Lions Tour line up and will be watching avidly from home as he rests and recovers. Everyone at Sky Sports wishes Miles all the very best."

Conor McNamara will be leading the commentary of the matches in Harrison's absence as part of an all start punditry team.
