Miles Bridges chasing Magic Johnson's Michigan State legacy

EAST LANSING, Mich. _ The pro scouts loved his game, and the lure of a lucrative pro contract was enticing.

He knew the teammates he loved had his back, whether or not he decided to enter the NBA draft. In the end, the dream of bringing Michigan State an NCAA title remained strong.

So strong that the only internal choice was to return for his sophomore season _ an announcement that gave Spartan fans their most exciting feeling since, well, he decided to become one of them. The moment he said he would stay in East Lansing, MSU became the favorite for the national championship.

Everyone knows what happened for Magic Johnson after that day in late April 1978. What comes next for Miles Bridges remains unwritten, but his goal for making the decision to stay in East Lansing runs parallel to Johnson's 39 years earlier.

"I felt we could have written a special story, and that's why I want to write it next year," Bridges said. "Legacy means a big thing for me. By building a legacy, you have to win. And with this group of guys, I think we can really win."
