A woman in her 50s is fighting for life in hospital after being hit by a bus in Mile End.

Police scrambled to Grove Road at around 7.30pm on Thursday to reports of a bus in collision with a pedestrian.

Officers and paramedics arrived and found a woman aged in her 50s at the scene, believed to be at the junction with Clinton Road.

She was rushed to an east London hospital for treatment, where she remains in a critical condition.

A police statement said: "Police were called at approximately 7.30pm on Thursday to reports of a bus in collision with a pedestrian in Grove Road.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the pedestrian, a woman aged in her 50s, was taken to an east London hospital for treatment.

"She remains there in a critical condition."

An earlier tweet on Tower Hamlet's Twitter page said: "Grove Road north from Mile End Road closed in both directions due to a very serious RTC."
