Mild conditions to help firefighters at Seaview blaze

Fire crews battling an out-of-control bushfire burning at Seaview, south-east of Melbourne, hope mild conditions today will help them get the upper hand on the blaze.

The fire in hilly terrain on McDonald's Track started on Saturday in one of the timber plantations owned by forestry corporation, Hancock Victorian Plantation (HVP), burning through 230 hectares.

A watch and act warning is in place for people in Ellinbank and Cloverlea.

A community meeting will be held at the Darnum Hall at 3pm today.

Firefighters worked through the night and the Country Fire Authority (CFA) expects the fire will be brought under control ahead of warmer weather that is predicted later this week.

CFA regional commander Bryan Russell said the fire burned close to houses on Sunday, but no one was evacuated.

"There was a number of houses dotted in and around the fire so we did put strategies in place to protect those assets, and we haven't lost any houses," Mr Russell said.

"We used a lot of aircraft on Sunday to fight the fires.

"The work's still ongoing. We'll get aircraft back today and additional crews. We're been working on the fire overnight and we'll continue today.

"The fire proved difficult to contain because of the hilly conditions. It was in plantations which is so dry at the moment.

"We'll get control very shortly, but there's still a danger the fire could move around unpredictably just because of the dryness of the fuel and the winds."
