Milan Fashion Week will blend physical and digital shows in September

As the dust settles on this year's Copenhagen Fashion Week, which hosted an array of physical shows and exhibitions, news has trickled down from the powers-that-be about the plans for Milan Fashion Week.

The four-day spectacle which usually takes the Italian city by storm each September will go ahead this year, enabling brands to showcase their spring/summer 2021 collections.

The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana - the organisation which produces the biannual fashion week - dubbed the upcoming showcase a “phygital fashion week” that will blend 28 physical shows with 24 digital ones.

Among the brands which will proceed with IRL shows are Marni, Versace, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Max Mara, and Giorgio Armani.

Notably absent from the schedule are Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander, Moschino and Gucci.

The latter is no surprise. Alessandro Michele announced in May that he would trim Gucci’s runway shows from five to two, stating that the next one will take place “off calendar” in November.

The news comes after the men's spring/summer 2021 collections were shown virtually at the first ever digital Milan Fashion Week in July.
