Arriverderci Giorgio: Armani unveils 50th anniversary show in aftermath of designer's death

Spring/Summer fashion shows are always about renewals and what will be fresh next season so it's perhaps fitting that this collection for Milan Fashion Week celebrated the 50th anniversary of the late Giorgio Armani.

Even without the presence of the legendary designer, Milan's spectacular runway shows are often the centre stage of the fashion world attracting celebrities, key influencers and the glitterati in equal dazzling numbers.

The event, at Milan's Brera art museum, drew a host of stars including actors Richard Gere and Cate Blanchett.

Since Armani's death earlier this month at the age of 91, tales of his complete control and choreography over the catwalk have been widely shared and perhaps this memorial show was the best way for him to have the last word.

Accompanied by music from Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi, models paraded under the museum's porticoes in colour ranging from grey to deep blue and dark green in a show entitled 'Pantelleria, Milan", a reference to two places close to the designer's heart.

Giorgio Armani's catwalk show brought the curtain down on Milan Fashion Week with the fashion world's attention now focused on the French capital for Paris Fashion Week.
