MILWAUKEE _ In his return to stateside baseball, Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas allowed three home runs Monday to the Milwaukee Brewers, good for all four of their runs. But Mikolas, who pitched in Japan the last three seasons, also homered himself.
His first major-league hit was a two-run homer off Zach Davies in the fifth inning, snapping a 2-2 tie and propelling the Cardinals and himself to an 8-4 victory in the Brewers' home opener.
Paul DeJong cracked his third homer in two days, a three-run drive off Brandon Woodruff, to highlight a four-run sixth.
The Cardinals' bullpen of Bud Norris, Tyler Lyons and rookie Jordan Hicks allowed just one hit and struck out four over the final 3 1/3 innings.
Third baseman Jedd Gyorko, whose double off Davies sparked a two-run inning in the second, left in the sixth with a strained right hamstring.
Besides Mikolas, reserve infielder Yairo Munoz also got his first major league hit, a ninth-inning single.
