Mikey Johnston nets Vitoria Guimaraes cracker as Celtic loan star comes out on top in thriller

Mikey Johnston grabbed his first goal in the Portuguese top flight as he helped his side come out on top in a five-goal thriller.

The Celtic star - on loan at Vitoria Guimaraes - was handed his second league 90 minutes in succession as he continues to enjoy life away on his temporary stint away from Glasgow. He rewarded the faith of his manager as he superbly curled home just after the 20 minute mark to set his side on their way against Famalicao while also chipping in with an assist. Nelson da Luz then scored a second half brace before the away side threatened a late comeback with Alex Millan on target twice.

The Hoops winger was allowed to go out in search of regular top team minutes after a string of injury issues. Ange Postecoglou also has the likes of Jota, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada and James Forrest at his disposal and ahead of Johnston in the current pecking order at the Scottish champions.

The victory moved Vitoria into fourth spot in the table - just three points behind Porto in third and the Champions League spots. It's the second game on the trot Johnston and Co have ran out 3-2 winners in front of their own fans.

Speaking after the win boss Moreno Teixeria said: “The analysis I make of the game is a balanced first part, difficult to find spaces. Because we had more ball, more initiative, and we scored, I think the result was fair at half-time.

"Then we started well in the second half, we scored two goals. Anyone who thought the game was controlled was wrong. My responsibility, it's a learning experience, and Famalicão's merit. The game is never controlled.

"I don't think there was any relaxation on our part, a set of situations, maybe some inappropriate changes. We won, we have twenty points, which is the most important thing. We will prepare for the game in Alvalade with the comfort of having twenty points on matchday 11”.
