Mikel Arteta 'will not discuss what happened' with big decision after Arsenal's defeat to Aston Villa

Mikel Arteta admitted Arsenal's lack of ruthlessness cost them points as they lost their second consecutive league game with a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

The Gunners lacked cutting edge in attack as Ollie Watkins' goal in the opening minute secured all three points for the visitors at Villa Park.

Arteta admitted after the game that he was frustrated with several key decisions not going Arsenal's away, but refused to use it as an excuse for the defeat.

"You cannot win football matches if every week you do something like that. Four or five times we’ve played with 10 men," Arteta told BT Sport after the game.

"Against Wolves, we deserved to win both games by far but we lost both.

"[Red cards] cost us that game [against Wolves] - today other big decisions. Regardless of what the referee did today we should win the game comfortably."

The Spaniard was asked what he said to the officials after going to speak with them at full-time, but said in his post-match press conference that he would rather keep the conversation "between me and them."

"As you could see I was really animated about a few decisions and one big decision I will not discuss here what happened.

"It's not an excuse. Regardless of those decisions we have to win the game - it's as simple as that."
