Mikel Arteta urged Arsenal supporters not to get “carried away” following the 4-0 win over Chelsea during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Albert Sambi Lokonga all scored the Gunners thrashed their London rivals, leaving Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel questioning the commitment of his players.

That brought an end to a successful preseason tour for Arsenal, who also beat Everton and Orlando City after an ambitious summer recruitment drive.

Title-winners Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have both arrived from Manchester City to strengthen a squad who narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last season.

Arteta, however, was eager to play down the importance of the result.

“Don’t get carried away,” he said.

“There are still a lot of things that we have to get better at and do better. But I think it’s good to get some momentum, finish the tour in the right way, give some enjoyment to our fans and everybody that’s been contributing to make this tour happen.”

Next up on Arsenal’s preseason schedule is a meeting with Sevilla in the Emirates Cup before the Premier League opener away at Crystal Palace on Friday August 5.
