Mikel Arteta update delivered and alternative teams to watch amid Premier League absence

Arsenal were expecting to be in action this weekend, but plans have been halted by the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Premier League have decided to postpone all Premier League fixtures until at least April 4th, which means that Gunners fans face three weeks without any action on the pitch. The Gunners were due to travel to take on Brighton and Hove Albion.

The break will leave Arsenal with a bit of unexpected extra time on their hands, especially as the first-team squad and coaching staff have gone into self isolation following the announcement that Mikel Arteta was diagnosed with the virus.

While there is no football being played, there is still plenty going on at the Emirates Stadium.

Here is the latest.

Arteta update

One of the main turning points in the Premier League's decision to postpone upcoming fixtures was the news that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta had tested positive for coronavirus.

Arteta himself sent a message following the news, but his wife, Lorena Bernal has taken to social media to provide another update on the Gunners' boss.

"My husband (Arteta) is feeling fine," she said,

"He is well. It's true that he had symptoms of the virus but the symptoms would have never stopped him from going to work in a normal situation. He would have just taken a ibuprofen or paracetamol and he would have gone to work so really, it's nothing major.

"Some temperatures, some headaches but that's it. That's his experience. My kids and I are perfectly well."

Alternative teams to watch

With the lack of Premier League or EFL football to watch over the next few weeks, there may be a few Arsenal fans on the lookout for a new team to follow while riding out the break.

Well, there are two teams from other parts of the world that Gunners' fans could take an interest in.

How will the season being cancelled affect Arsenal?

With the suspension of the league, there is a debate as to how the 2019/20 season could be concluded.

One option would be to simply call off the season and declare the games already played as null and void, that means that Liverpool, who are 25 points clear at the top of the table would not be awarded their first Premier League title.

But if that does happen, how will it affect the Gunners? find out here .
