Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has called upon Mikel Arteta to make a big decision on Mesut Ozil ahead of the January transfer window.
The Spaniard arrives in North London to join a squad that needs a significant rebuild following a disappointing 18 months under Unai Emery, with speculation orientating around a number of players.
One of those is Ozil, who has struggled to show consistency since signing a lucrative new contract almost two years ago, and Neville believes it is make or break for the World Cup winner.
As he explained, Arsenal need to either build their side around the German or offload him when the transfer window opens in the New Year.
"The most important thing in football is being composed in the final third and with the final pass and moment, " he told Sky Sports.
"He has that ability in abundance. We know he can compose himself and he has that class.
"It's just the overall package
"Mikel Arteta wants to play a sort of front foot football and he talks about high energy.
"Is Mesut Ozil going to allow him to do that? We have seen him play in some great sides and he is capable of that.
"Mikel has to make a decision on Ozil and that's to either build a team around him or remove him from the club.
"I don't think there can be any in between."
Arteta has already stated that it's a clean slate for everyone at the club - including Ozil.
"It’s a question for Freddie. I just wanted him to pick the best possible lineup for the game," he said about the Ozil situation. "You’re not going to be judged on what you done in the past, positive or negative.
"We will try to put the most competitive team out, we are to be ready and nullify them as much as possible."
