Mikel Arteta told not to worry about 'brilliant' Arsenal star despite growing recent criticism

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has been praised for his recent performances despite failing to find the back of the net in seven games. The Brazilian last scored in the north London derby victory over Tottenham on October 1 and has struggled to add to his five goals scored.

Jesus, 25, has had a hard time in front of goal in the past month but has continued to lead the line for the Gunners courtesy of his brilliant link-up play with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Sako. The £45 million summer signing started his time in the capital with five goals in the opening eight league games and has played a key role in helping Mikel Arteta side's sizzling start to the new campaign.

Arteta has utilised the Brazilian in the Europa League games too, but he went through the whole group stage without finding the back of the net. Despite his lack of goal contributions, Jesus has continued to impress and grabbed two assists in the Gunners' 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Arsenal travel to Chelsea tomorrow afternoon in their first tough encounter on the road this season and will require Jesus' hard work if they are to continue to remain at the top of the table. Ahead of the game, former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison has defended the striker's form in front of goal and has applauded the work he does on the pitch.

"He does everything else, he's been brilliant," he told Gillette Labs Soccer Saturday.

"At the moment, they can manage without him because other players are stepping up to the mark and scoring goals like Martinelli. They've got people like Odegaard and even Xhaka and Partey are scoring goals from midfield.

"I'm telling you now, he'll be thinking about it. You can see he's snatching at chances. Even against Forest, he probably could have come off with the match ball. But I wouldn't worry about it, they're still winning football matches and he's not scoring goals. He's having a big effect on the game outside the box."
