Mikel Arteta told how Martin Odegaard can complete his dream Arsenal midfield

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Martin Odegaard.

The 22-year-old recently became available for a loan move after it had become clear that he would not be getting regular minutes under Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid.

football.london understands technical director Edu had spoken with Odegaard's father Hans and agent Bjorn Tore Kvarme, while on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos had also helped convinced the Norwegian to pick Arsenal over Real Sociedad where he spent part of last season on loan.

Now all that remains is official confirmation of the loan deal and the Gunners have less than two weeks before the January transfer window shuts.

If Arsenal do manage to land Odegaard, what type of player will Mikel Arteta be adding to his first-team squad?

Well, the attacking midfielder's Norway national team manager in Stale Solbakken has outlined exactly what Gunners supporters and Arteta can expect.

"First of all, if it happens, I think it shows that Martin has an extremely high confidence in himself, " he told the Norweigan media.

"Considering he is going into a new league and a team that, although they have improved a lot lately, had some good wins and climbed the table. But is a team with great traditions that has underperformed for a while now, they are rebuilding.

"I think they have a very good manager. I like Arteta and the way he tries to set up the team.

"But he is not coming to a club that is a self-propelled machine in any kind of way.

"He is coming to another culture, another country, a different tempo.

"It shows that the boy has great belief in what he is doing. That makes me happy."

Interestingly, Solbakken also touched on Odegaard's positional flexibility and his eye for a decisive pass as to how the playmaker can complete Arteta's dream midfield.

"I think the way Arsenal play can fit him very well. They play different formations and a kind of football that should suit him," he added. "He can also play in different roles in the midfield depending on which formation Arteta chooses.

"He will also get runs in front of him so that he can make assists and be a good team player."
