Mikel Arteta to miss Man City clash after testing positive for Covid-19

Arsenal will be without Head Coach Mikel Arteta for their match against Manchester City after the former City assistant tested positive for Covid-19.

In a short statement on the Gunners' website, the club said: "Mikel Arteta will miss our match against Manchester City on New Year’s Day after testing positive for Covid-19.

"Mikel is isolating in line with Government guidelines and we wish him well."

This is likely to be a huge blow for the Gunners' boss who would be relishing a chance to go head-to-head on the touchline with his former mentor, Pep Guardiola.

Arteta previously caught Coronavirus back in March 2020, leading to the training ground shutting down in London.

Before their trip to the Emirates on Saturday, City will be in the capital tonight as they take on Brentford.

Arsenal currently sit 4th in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders City having played the same amount of fixtures.

Guardiola's men will kick off the new year at 12.30pm on Saturday.
