Mikel Arteta to Arsenal: What Frank Lampard, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and other bosses have said

Arsenal have confirmed the appointment of Mikel Arteta as Unai Emery's successor at the Emirates Stadium, luring their former midfielder from the clutches of Manchester City.

Arteta has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the Gunners, returning to the club where he finished his playing career with a five-year stint in North London.

The Spaniard becomes the 20th manager in Arsenal's history and faces a daunting task this season after what has been a sub-par display so far from the side he has inherited.

Ahead of the appointment, many of Arteta's fellow managers have shared their verdict on his move and we have gathered what they have had to say below.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal's philosophy when he joined as a player

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - Manchester United

"If you know the DNA in the club and the culture in the club. If you have been there in period when the club has done well and see the culture.

"Build on what is going well and improve what you can do. The best example is what Pep Guardiola did when he was the manager of Barcelona."

Eddie Howe - Bournemouth

"If you have a link with the supporters it can go a long way. It can help take the pressure off of the players."

Steve Bruce - Newcastle United

"He has been an assistant for many years. Of his generation I didn't think there was enough coming through but now there are a few of them. That is good to say.

"He has played the game at a high level and he has now done his time. What an opportunity and we wish him the best of luck."

Frank Lampard - Chelsea

“Nothing surprises me. Those two possible appointments do not. I know the credentials of Carlo Ancelotti. Incredible career, fantastic man. Arteta is at a different end of his managerial career, but looking from the outside and seeing how he carries himself, he’d be a really positive appointment. Intelligent, diligent and a big opportunity for him.”
