Mikel Arteta has told Sokratis Papastathopoulos that he no longer has a future at Arsenal as he plans to overhaul his squad.
The Spaniard has been unable to truly stamp his authority at the Emirates having arrived midway through the season.
Arsenal have a host of issues that need addressing if they are to improve on their 9th place finish in the Premier League.
Defence is perhaps the most alarming of those issues with conceding goals a major problem and Arteta will look to strengthen in that area.

Sokratis was signed by Unai Emery but does not fit the style of football Arteta is looking to implement in north London.
The Greek defender has played just one minute of football since the return of football so the news will not come as a surprise, reports football.london.
Sokratis, who has continued to train professionally despite the news, has no plans to move on in the summer and is still determined to change his manager's impression.
But Arteta's plans were laid bare when he made it clear that he needed to address his defensive options when three of them were out.

He said: “I already mentioned to you three central defenders that are not available and we haven't had them available for a long time anyway during this season.
“We will have to address that.”
William Saliba will arrive from Saint-Etienne after seeing out his season on loan at the French club.
The 19-year-old was signed last summer but will now be available for selection and is highly thought of.
Arsenal have six central defenders at the club but Arteta is seemingly still keen to strengthen in that department.
