Mikel Arteta takes first Arsenal training session ahead of Bournemouth clash - in pictures

Mikel Arteta took charge of his first training session as Arsenal manager on Sunday as he builds up to his maiden match at the helm.

The Spaniard was pictured putting the players through their paces and imparting his early ideas at London Colney ahead of the Boxing Day trip to Bournemouth.

Arteta could be seen giving instructions to the likes of David Luiz, Matteo Guendouzi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos before that clash at the Vitality Stadium, which will be his very first in management.

With a compensation package finally agreed with Manchester City, former Arsenal captain and Pep Guardiola protege Arteta was officially appointed as the permanent successor to Unai Emery on Friday.

He then watched from the stands at Goodison Park on Saturday as the Gunners - who have now won just one of their last 13 matches across all competitions - were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Everton in what was the final game in charge for interim boss Freddie Ljungberg.

Mesut Ozil missed that contest due to injury, with Ljungberg stating afterwards that he would not have made the squad anyway after his reaction to being substituted in last weekend's defeat by Manchester City.

However, Arteta described him as a "massive player" for Arsenal during his introductory press conference and the German was pictured training on Sunday.
